Motorola Huge Layoffs This Week

Motorola’s handset division will be expecting massive layoffs this week. The layoffs certainly aren’t just a few staff, as reports indicate that it may amount to half of the entire handset operation. Motorola’s other divisions like set top box, networking equipment, and enterprise device businesses will not be affected. Also, Motorola will not be having a booth at the CTIA Wireless trade show in April, which is the largest wireless event in the US. To make matters worse, Motorola will be reducing the number of new phones it releases to just a dozen per year and the only smartphones it will produce will be based on Google’s Android platform, though throwing its support in Google’ direction may not be such a bad thing.
