Bangladesh's Mobile Operators Set To Deactivate More Than 1 Million SIM Cards
It looks like Bangladesh’s mobile operators are set to deactivate more than 1 million unregistered SIM cards after Sunday, as the deadline for registration has ended.
Though operators were previously allowed to sell the cards without asking to see identification and registering the purchaser’s personal details, the government introduced new regulations that changed that last year.
Mobile operators were ordered to re-register customers who bought connections before February 28, 2006, and the deadline was extended four times to May 31st to give operators more time to plan for the change.
