iPhone open source GPS module coming in '08

Besides the lack of MMS messaging capabilities, GPS is one of the most missed features of the iPhone that never was. Part Foundry is working on developing a GPS plug-in, being branded as locoGPS, that would allow any Jailbroken iPhone to integrate a location service, backed by open source GPS software.

The bad news that as of now, the development process is still in the conceptual stage. And further more, the locoGPS service would only allow users to pinpoint their current coordinates on Google Maps. But don’t be turned off by its seemingly meager GPS output. The open source design means that it can be developed and improved over time, meaning more GPS productivity for us users.
