Firefox Mobile On Nokia N810

Fennec Beta 1 walkthrough from Madhava Enros on Vimeo.

The Windows Mobile version of Fennec (Firefox Mobile) might have run into a problem or two, but the version of Nokia’s N810 seems to be working fine, as you can see from the video below. The good news is that the Windows Mobile Fennec team has sorted out the memory allocation issues, so it’s a step forward for Firefox in the mobile browser wars.

Fennec Will Be Called Firefox

Fennec Will Be Called Firefox

We’ve been calling it Fennec for such a long time, and in case you’re not sure what we’re talking about, it’s the mobile version of Firefox, that should be released in the near future. In terms of its name, word is out that it will be called “Firefox”, nothing more. So maybe we can ditch the “Firefox Mobile”, “Mobile Firefox” names and just continue to pray that it will be released sooner rather than later.

Fennec Weave Will Sync Your Tabs

Fennec Weave Will Sync Your Tabs

The latest version of Weave now supports Fennec, which is great news for folks who hate to have to try and remember what they were last browsing on their desktop. Weave can sync your open tabs between Firefox on the desktop, and Fennec on your mobile device. Of course, you’re not forced to re-open all your browser windows that were open on the desktop, rather you have the ability to access the tabs that are open on synced browsers and open local copies. The UI of this is currently still a work in progress, but as long as development is going smoothly, we’ve got no complaints. Hopefully this will be completed sometime soon, and in time for when Fennec really gets some momentum.

Fennec For Your HTC Touch Pro

Fennec For Your HTC Touch Pro

Firefox fans out there (who own a HTC Touch Pro anyways) can rejoice, as Mozilla has announced the first milestone release for Fennec, which is as we all know, the mobile version of Firefox. As we mentioned, the current build that they’re offering for download only supports HTC’s Touch Pro at the moment, so you’re out of luck if you’re using another phone. Hopefully this milestone release will help Mozilla get useful feedback on the browser and help them turn it into the final product sooner rather than later.

Fennec For WinMob On Video

Posted on: Posted on February 2, 2009 7:00 AM

We know that some folks out there have managed to install a version of Fennec (Firefox Mobile), but now we’ve managed to dig up a video giving a nice demo of the browser in action. As you’d expect, it’s still a little rough at the edges, but hopefully the kinks will be worked out sooner rather than later.

Leaked Fennec Not Looking Too Good

Leaked Fennec Not Looking Too Good

We’re all still waiting for Fennec (Firefox Mobile) for Windows Mobile. While it hasn’t been officially released yet, thanks to the Internet, the CAB installer for an unknown version of it has surfaced. It’s probably not a beta, as it’s sized in at a huge 23MB, installs into your games folder and crashes often, hinting that it’s probably a very early build. Apparently it supports VGA displays, even though the font is a tad small. More importantly, the keyboard doesn’t seem to pop up automatically unless you begin typing with the physical keyboard, and the browser loads the mobile versions of websites by default (instead of the full version). If you’re interested it trying it out, you could always download and install it. As usual, remember to be careful when installing software, and backup your information before you do so.
