BlackBerry 9630 And 8520 Release Dates

Eager to pick up a new BlackBerry device? Well, the folks over at BoyGenius have come up with some possible release dates for the BlackBerry Tour 9630 and Curve 8520. It seems that the Curve should be available on T-Mobile sometime in Q4, while the 9630 Tour should be available on Verizon on July 13th. These aren’t official dates, but hopefully they’re accurate and will give us a guideline as to when the devices will be available.

4.7.0.141 Firmware For BlackBerry 9500

Folks living in the UK looking for a firmware update for their BlackBerry Storm 9500 can pick up the latest official 4.7.0.141 firmware from Vodafone UK. The good news is that since it’s an official firmware, you won’t have to worry as much about voiding your warranty as such. That being said, it’s still a good idea to exercise caution and always backup your data before you perform a firmware update, regardless of whether it’s official or not.

Google Push Services To BlackBerry

Google Push Services To BlackBerry

Google has rolled out a new service for folks who own BlackBerry phones. Gmail and calendar items will be able to be pushed to the native client software on RIM’s devices, thus helping Google make more headway into the enterprise market. This service will be part of the Premier and Education editions of Google Apps, giving users no more excuses not to reply to their Gmail messages. Google even has plans to update the service over time, and it’s certainly exiting to imagine the kind of things that Google might offer in the future.

RIM Better Than Apple In Q1

RIM Better Than Apple In Q1

Knocking Apple’s iPhone off its comfortable perch at the very top isn’t an easy feat, so hats off to RIM who’s BlackBerry Curve has managed to demote the iPhone to second spot in terms of consumer smartphone market share. RIM’s smartphone market share increased by 15%, bringing the total to nearly 50% of the smartphone market, which is certainly more enjoyable, especially since Apple and Palm saw their market share decline by about 10%. Will the upcoming release of the Palm Pre and (rumored) new iPhone help those companies make up for lost ground to RIM?

BlackBerry Storm 2 Rumor

It looks like we will be seeing a successor the RIM’s BlackBerry Storm sometime in the near future. According to reports, Jim Balsillie was quoted as saying “we have next-generation devices with [touch] and the whole roadmap.” With that in mind, it certainly looks like a new touchscreen BlackBerry device is on the cards. There isn’t any mention of when this new BlackBerry Storm will be released, but there are sources that indicate a period around September 2009, so keep an eye out for it.

AT&T BlackBerry Curve 8900 This Summer

It looks like AT&T subscribers won’t have to drool at their friends who are on T-Mobile using the BlackBerry Curve 8900, as the AT&T too will be offering the device. The BlackBerry Curve 8900 is a popular device for obvious reasons, especially since it’s smaller, lighter and even has a slightly better camera than the BlackBerry Bold. The AT&T version is largely similar to the one that T-Mobile is offering, albeit lacking the UMA (unlicensed mobile access) feature that it available to T-Mobile subscribers.

BlackBerry Curve 8520 Gets A Trackpad

The rumor of a BlackBerry without its famous trackball has been going around for a while now, but live pictures of the device have finally surfaced. Based on the picture, it can be seen that the trackball has been replaced by a more elegant looking trackpad, which might be controversial in the future. After all, the trackball is a classic feature. The BlackBerry Curve 8520 will feature a 2-megapixel camera, EDGE, Wi-Fi and a possible 480 x 360 resolution display. There isn’t any official word on this just yet, but there is a possibility of the device being announced at RIM’s upcoming Wireless Enterprise Symposium.

When the accessories start coming out, you can be fairly sure that he real device isn’t too far behind.

4.7.0.122 For Telus BlackBerry Storm

Telus subscribers can rejoice at the fact that the carrier has finally released the 4.7.0.122 build for the Blackberry 9530. This release, which comes after Bell had released a similar build, puts Verizon way down the list of carriers who are releasing up to date builds, as there still isn’t any such update from the carrier yet. Verizon really should get its act together in terms of keeping its devices updated, don’t you think?

Obama To Get Top Secret BlackBerry

By now almost everybody who has heard of Barack Obama will have heard of his love for the device, and his refusal to give it up. It looks like the President has finally won the war to keep his 8830, as NSA is reported to be going over the device to make sure it meets federal standards. The device will sport a software called SecureVoice, which will supposedly protect the device from hackers, eavesdroppers and spies. There isn’t any proof that the President has received his updated BlackBerry yet, but you can be sure that when he gets it back, he’ll be one happy President.
