AT&T To Sell Samsung Infinity Budget Touchscreen Handset

Samsung is scheduled to release the Infinity - a good-looking, full-touchscreen budget phone - this July 20th. Targeting the mid to low-range phone lineup, it will feature a 3-inch 240x400 pixels touchscreen display, 2MP camera, quad-band GSM/EDGE and dual-band UMTS, along with Bluetooth, microSD expansion and aGPS. It is good looking, which should help it overcome its lower specs compared to its predecessor, the Eternity. And this time, let's hope it will last longer than its name sounds.

Samsung a177 For AT&T GoPhone

It looks like budget phones might be the popular thing during these uncertain economic times. AT&T is offering the Samsung a177 for its bargain GoPhone service. While the device might be budget-oriented, it still manages to fit in a QWERTY keyboard, camera, and EDGE connectivity. For a budget phone, you have to admit that it does look rather nice.

myWireless Mobile For iPhone

You might have used Verizon’s account management application for the BlackBerry a while ago, but it looks like the AT&T has (rightfully) turned its attentions to the iPhone users and is offering the “myWireless Mobile” app for the iPhone, allowing users to check usage, modify account settings and even pay their bills directly on the iPhone. Not only is it a handy app to have, it’s also free, which is a bonus.

AT&T BlackBerry Curve 8900 This Summer

AT&T BlackBerry Curve 8900 This Summer

It looks like AT&T subscribers won’t have to drool at their friends who are on T-Mobile using the BlackBerry Curve 8900, as the AT&T too will be offering the device. The BlackBerry Curve 8900 is a popular device for obvious reasons, especially since it’s smaller, lighter and even has a slightly better camera than the BlackBerry Bold. The AT&T version is largely similar to the one that T-Mobile is offering, albeit lacking the UMA (unlicensed mobile access) feature that it available to T-Mobile subscribers.

Samsung Epix Hotfix Problem

Samsung Epix Hotfix Problem

Updates are good right? Well, that may not always be the case, as evidenced by a recent update that was pushed by AT&T. The update was meant to fix the “Slog Dump” problem that occurred with the phone, and it does, but folks who applied the hotfix started having quite a few issues with the radio after the hotfix was applied. Kill one bug, and 10 more created, eh?

AT&T Compares The Pre And iPhone

AT&T Compares The Pre And iPhone

Is AT&T beginning to feel the heat from the (unreleased) Palm Pre? Well, the fact that the company has issued an internal document pointing out the “advantages” of the iPhone over the Palm Pre certainly shows that it’s paying attention to the device. The arguments seem a little baseless to be honest, but if said in a proper way, it could probably make the iPhone sound like the more attractive phone. It will be interesting to see if the Palm Pre will be able to mount a proper challenge on Apple’s iPhone, Sprint and Palm will certainly be hoping that it can.

AT&T Q1 Earnings Fall 9.7 Percent

AT&T Q1 Earnings Fall 9.7 Percent

AT&T has announced its first quarter earnings for the period ending March 31st 2009, and it can be seen that the company’s earnings fell 9.7 percent. It’s reported that that company earned $3.126 billion in the first quarter, which is 53 cents per share, down year-over-year from $3.471 billion (57 cents per share). One of the more interesting points of the report is that the company activated 1.6 million iPhone 3G smartphones during the first quarter, which is certainly an impressive feature. Randall Stephenson, AT&T chairman and chief executive officer said:

"I am particularly pleased with the success of our iPhone 3G initiative, which has driven strong high-end customer growth and delivered financial benefits ahead of our original outlook,"

$150 For Refurbished 16GB iPhone 3G

$150 For Refurbished 16GB iPhone 3G

Don’t want to pay the (probably) hefty price for the latest iPhone when it’s finally launched? Well, if you don’t mind refurbished phones, AT&T is currently offering refurbished 16GB iPhone 3Gs for just $150 (bundled with a 2-year contract of course). The offer is limited to one purchase per household, and remember, it’s for a new line or new customer, so not everybody is eligible. If you’re not one to take good care of your phones, getting a refurbished one might be just the way to save a few bucks (aside from not buying a new phone, of course).

SlingPlayer For iPhone Rejected?

SlingPlayer For iPhone Rejected?

This is still an unconfirmed rumor, but word is going around that the SlingPlayer for the iPhone was denied because of an executive decision from Apple. The app itself conformed to Apple’s guidelines for applications and user interfaces, so there shouldn’t be any problem there. According to the rumor, AT&T asked that the app be rejected due to worries of the bandwidth consumption of the app, though if you sit down and think about it, it doesn’t make sense, since other devices are certainly using SlingPlayer Mobile. Hopefully this will all be sorted out soon, and we’ll be able to get SlingPlayer on the iPhone.

AT&T FamilyMap Tracks You

AT&T FamilyMap Tracks You

There is a fine line between privacy and knowing your whereabouts, and AT&T’s newly launched service, FamilyMap, might just be a rather controversial service. Basically it lets you locate any number on your AT&T account for a monthly fee, which is fine by us. The thing is, aside from the first notification text message that is sent to alert the subscriber that the service has been activated, further checks on the whereabouts of that number is completely silent. This means that if you’ve accepted the service and if you’re parents are busy checking where you are, you wouldn’t be notified. Even worse, it doesn’t use cell tower triangulation; rather it has the ability to activate the GPS chip on your mobile phone, spooky isn’t it? Regardless of the ethics of the service, it’s certainly an interesting service (probably less so if you’re the one being tracked. In terms of fees, you’ll need to pay $9.99 monthly for 2 phones, or $14.95 for give phones.

AT&T Looking To Extend iPhone Deal

AT&T Looking To Extend iPhone Deal

In a move that is certainly going to have iPhone fans that are not on AT&T’s network screaming in anguish; it seems that AT&T and Apple are in talks to extend the iPhone exclusivity deal beyond 2010 to 2011. Sure, it’s “just another year”, but considering the number of new subscribers who are flocking to AT&T’s network just for this phone, it certainly looks like a smart move on AT&T’s part.

MedNet Healthcare To Save Lives

MedNet Healthcare To Save Lives

We’ve all been through the horror stories of cell phone batteries exploding and killing people, now it looks like we have some good news, which is a cell phone application which could help save lives, instead of end them. MedNet Healthcare Technologies has a new service which AT&T is hoping to introduce. This will allow patients to monitor their own heartbeat, and also automatically transfer the information to cardiologists via Bluetooth-enabled cell phones. As long as customers are within AT&T networks, information will be sent to a central monitoring service, which will then relay the information to their respective doctors. Of course, the service won’t be free, and you’ll need to have a doctor who’s willing to play ball with such a service, but if it catches on, it would be a rather handy service to have in the future.

Nokia E71x Misses Launch Date

Nokia E71x Misses Launch Date

The previous rumor was that Nokia’s E71x would be available by March 24th, the bad news is that the day has come and gone, but without any E71x available in stores. Word on the street is that this was caused by a last-minute bug that was discovered in the phone’s email application. Hopefully AT&T and Nokia will be able to get this sorted out soon, and we’ll see the Nokia E71x on retail shelves.
