No Acer Android Phones Until 2010
Posted on: Posted on May 8, 2009 8:31 PM

It looks like we’ll have to wait quite a bit before we’ll be able to pick up the latest Android-powered devices from Acer. While the company has been showing a lot of them at various exhibitions, it seems that the earliest release date for these devices in the US will be 2010, thus missing the crucial holiday season. The delay is most likely due to complications with US carriers.
Acer Targets 1m Smartphones Next Year
Posted on: Posted on April 27, 2009 10:47 AM

Acer certainly looks like it has some rather lofty ambitions, as the head of Acer’s smart handheld business group has mentioned that the company expects its smartphone shipments to go beyond the 1 million mark in 2010. If that wasn’t good enough, the company also plans to conquer 6-7% of the market in 3 years, which is no easy feat. Acer sees smartphones taking up 10% of the company’s total sales in 2011, and it aiming to be one of the top five smartphone makers globally in 2012.

Acer F1 Is Powerful
Posted on: Posted on March 25, 2009 10:32 AM
It seems that Acer’s F1, which is Acer’s answer to the HTC touch HD, will not only have a large screen and thin form factor, it will also be very powerful, thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which will be running at 800MHz. In terms of graphics, the device will sport an ATI Graphics processor, allowing users to enjoy the Acer Suite 2.0 flash-based user interface to run like a charm. The rumored price for the device is €560 ($758), and you can expect it to be available around September.

Want to use Google’s Android platform, but want something else aside from the HTC Magic and HTC Dream? Well, rumor is that Acer’s new Android-powered devices will be out in September, which isn’t too long a wait. Both Acer and Google have declined to comment on the rumor. The device is codenamed the A1, said to be a touch-based device, and will be one of four Android-powered handsets that Acer will be launching.
Acer DX650 In Philippines
Posted on: Posted on March 11, 2009 12:41 PM

Reactions to Acer’s DX650 are still mixed, which is really not surprising, given the phone’s dual-faced design. At first glance, a secondary display with numeric keypad would probably be a great SMS tool, but when you take into account the second screen is a tad tiny, it kind of makes you scratch your head in confusion. The device has entered the Philippine market, though its price of 24,990 pesos ($518) is certainly a little on the high side. Of course, if you absolutely love the dual-faced design, then you shouldn’t have too much trouble shelling out such a figure for this phone.

Acer Android Phone In 2009?
Posted on: Posted on March 10, 2009 1:55 PM

Speculation is certainly mounting that Acer will come up with an Android-powered smartphone in 2009. While there were certainly hints that Acer would be going down the Android path before this, Acer smartphone boss, Aymer De Lencquesaing, has given further indication that we’ll be seeing an Android-powered Acer phone this year. When quizzed whether any of the new phones by Acer would use an alternative operating system to Windows Mobile, he said: “there is a possibility, yes.” A solid “yes” would have been much better, but we’ll take what we can get, right?
An Acer App Store In The Future?
Posted on: Posted on March 9, 2009 8:27 AM

It seems everybody is copying Apple and coming up with their own version of the incredibly successful App Store. Hot on the heels of RIM, it looks like Acer is gearing up to prepare its own version of an online application store. The senior corporate vice president of Acer has mentioned that the company is “examining the viability of an app store”, though there was no confirmation that the company would take the plunge just yet. Judging by the popularity of Apple’s App Store, it’s certainly no surprise to see various companies consider joining the party.

Secret Acer Android Phones?
Posted on: Posted on February 17, 2009 11:22 AM

Here’s something rather peculiar that is coming out from Engadget. Apparently when they pressed the Acer representative over at MWC over the company’s plans to launch an Android handset, the rep did a rough sketch of the upcoming product roadmap which included 2 “Android secret models”. There isn’t any additional information on that, but we’re certainly not going to complain about more Android-powered phones. It will be interesting to see what Acer comes up with in terms of Android-powered devices.

Acer X960 Leaked
Posted on: Posted on February 12, 2009 9:12 AM

Acer should have quite a lot to announce during this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. First there is the DX650, and now we’ve also managed to dig up leaked pictures of the Acer x960, which looks a lot more normal than its two-faced brother. The Acer x960 has a VGA display, 533MHz processor, 128MB RAM, 256 ROM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, microSD card expansion, HSDPA, front facing camera and a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash. One of the features that the phone lacks is a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a shame.

Pictures of Acer’s DX650 have been leaked online, and it certainly looks unique, if not downright ugly. That being said, the option to use a full touchscreen or a physical keypad will certainly have its benefits, not to mention the phone also has a jog dial which makes single-handed navigation much easier. Features of the Acer DX650 include Windows Mobile, GPS, microSD card slot, miniUSB port, Samsung 533MHz processor, 128MB RAM, 256MB ROM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, HSDPA and a 3.2 megapixel camera.

Acer Smartphone Spotted?
Posted on: Posted on February 4, 2009 7:38 AM

We know that Acer has a couple of phones up its sleeve for MWC 2009, though we never really had any pictures of anything to go by. Fortunately, some folks on the Internet have managed to snag some pictures of an Acer device, which should be seeing the light of day at MWC 2009, albeit it looks real weird. Aside from this, there is also word that there will be a full touchscreen Acer phone, which closely resembles the iPhone. At least MWC isn’t too far away, meaning there should be some official word on the Acer phones sometime soon.

Glofiish DX900 Becomes Acer DX900
Posted on: Posted on February 3, 2009 10:28 AM

It’s no secret that Acer bought over E-TEN Corporation a while ago, and with it quite a bit of cell phone know-how. In a certain rebranding effort, Acer has gone ahead and rebranded the Glofiish DX900 as the Acer DX900. Sure, it’s just a brand issue, but we’re fairly sure that Acer pays a lot of attention to it, as it would want to establish itself on the cell phone scene.
