Rumours suggesting Apple Smart Covers do not work with the new iPad proved wrong

Published

Many owners of the new iPad are reporting that Smart Covers that they own do not trigger the automatic locking screen when they are closed. The Apple developed Smart Cover was first launched with iPad 2 and worked with a magnet found on the right edge of the cover which would lock the screen and keep it fixed to the front of the display. Reports are filling Apple forums that the Smart Covers are not working with the newest iPad.

Our counterparts at Pocket-lint decide to investigate the claims and carry out tests of their own. In their tests they used an original Smart Cover bought at the launch of the iPad 2, a Smart Cover bought at the launch of the new iPad, and a Griffin intelliCase to see if there were any differences. For both devices, all 3 covers worked without flaw and this in turn made them get a counterfeit Smart Cover to try on both the iPad 2 and the new iPad. The results seem to give a glimmer of an answer as to why some users were having problems. While it worked fine on the iPad 2, it did not lock the screen on the iPad 3.

Based on their experiment, we can conclude that if you want to get a proper cover for your new iPad, it will have to be an official one or one from a third-party supplier who you can trust. If you have decided to buy one from a guy who had a signboard on the windscreen of his car and his trunk was wide open as he peddled his wares, don’t blame Apple for it because it seems that they have tinkered with the new iPad to make it “immune” to fakes.

iPad Air 3 Not Coming This Year According To Rumors

Published

on

apple-logo2It looks like the folks over at Digitimes have come up with their own interpretation of things to come – that there will be no iPad Air 3 released, at least for this year. Digitimes has had their fair share of hits and misses in the past, so it would be best to take this rumor concerning the non-release of the iPad Air 3 in 2015 with a pinch of salt.

Digitimes also laid claim that the iPad mini 4 will not be as supercharged as some of the rumors that had been going around, as it will bring with it only small and incremental upgrades when compared to its predecessor, the iPad mini 3. This does not seem to bode well for fans of the compact tablet, taking into consideration how the iPad mini 3 itself was improved over its predecessor with a new Touch ID fingerprint reader.

Since Apple tends to roll out a new iPad in October, we will just have to sit tight and see whether this particular rumor has enough “legs” to run.
