So we know that Google Wallet functionality will not be available on the Galaxy Nexus. Given the partnership between Google and Sprint for Google Wallet, we guess we can’t say we’re surprised to find out that Verizon will not be including Google Wallet functionality on the device, but according to a statement released by Verizon, that is not the case.
“Recent reports that Verizon is blocking Google Wallet on our devices are false. Verizon does not block applications.
Google Wallet is different from other widely-available m-commerce services. Google Wallet does not simply access the operating system and basic hardware of our phones like thousands of other applications. Instead, in order to work as architected by Google, Google Wallet needs to be integrated into a new, secure and proprietary hardware element in our phones.
We are continuing our commercial discussions with Google on this issue.”
Either way whatever Verizon’s reasons are, it looks like if you were hoping for NFC mobile payment functionality on your Galaxy Nexus, you will probably have to rely on ISIS, if and when it starts rolling out.
