Some of you guys may have walked past some jewelry stores and seen these luxurious looking mobile phones by Vertu. If you didn’t already know, the brand is a subsidiary of none other than Nokia. Now word has it that Nokia has plans to sell off the Vertu brand and Goldman Sachs is said to be the one overseeing the process.
For those unfamiliar with Vertu, they’re Nokia’s luxury subsidiary brand that specializes in mobile phones crafted from luxurious materials. These include materials such as stainless steel, sapphire screens, various types of leathers and in some cases even rare stones are used. We’re not sure who actually buys Vertu phones (I have yet to see anyone use one), but we’re guessing there is a market for it, albeit a rather niche one.
With their phones priced in the four digit range at their very lowest, we’re guessing that these phones should appeal to luxury brands who might be interested in crafting a series of luxury phones for themselves.
