iOS 5.0.1 could be considered a failure to some especially since it did not solve battery woes for some iPhone users. The good news is that Apple has recently seeded a beta of iOS 5.1 to developers, which we’re hoping could indicate that there might be a possibility of an update/fix to solve the battery woes.
Based on the release note, it does not seem that Apple has plans to fix the battery problems or add further support for Siri with iOS 5.1, but given that it’s a pre-release beta, we expect that more beta builds will be pushed out over time and hopefully the battery issue will be fixed further down the line.
This seems to have completely busted the rumor that was making its way around the internet. It was suggested a while back that Apple had two updates they were planning to push out – iOS 5.0.2 that would fix the battery draining problem and iOS 5.1 that would be a major update with additional Siri support. It looks like those rumors turned out to be false, either that or Apple decided to just forge ahead with iOS 5.1, bypassing iOS 5.0.2 completely.
