Dell Streak Pro 101DL headed to Japan first, rest of the world later

Published

on

Dell’s smartphones haven’t really taken off compared to other phones by Samsung, Motorola, LG and HTC, but that hasn’t stopped the company from making another attempt in Japan in the form of the Dell Streak Pro 101DL. It will be joining the LUMIX Phone 101P and the Sharp AQUOS PHONE 102SH as part of Softbank’s Fall/Winter lineup.

It is expected to feature a 4.3” Super AMOLED qHD display, a 1.5GHz dual-core MSM8260 processor along with an 8MP camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera. It will run on Android’s Gingerbread 2.3, and the good news is that unlike the other smartphones joining Softbank’s portfolio, the Dell Streak Pro 101DL has plans for a global release, although it will be making its first stop in Japan.

Published

The Dell Venue Pro comes has one advantage this time around, where it is on the receiving end of the Windows Phone Tango update. After all, this is not exactly the newest smartphone around, and to see the hardware still being supported is definitely worth a look. The Venue Pro is nearly a couple of years in age, and has the virtue of being one of the first Windows Phone powered devices to arrive at the market, so to see it being supported by the latest updates is always an encouraging sight.

To date, it was revealed that only one user in Germany was on the receiving end of this update on his handset, although others should follow suit pretty soon. Do bear in mind that this is not the Windows Phone 7.8 update which was promised to current Windows Phone 7.5-powered devices, and there is no certainty that this particular device will receive the update as well. Still, to see Dell extend such support is always worth mulling over.
