As it stands Samsung and LG are some of the bigger players when it comes to making display units for smartphones and tablets. After all Apple had outsourced the LED displays of the iPad devices to both Samsung and LG, and Samsung is well known for their Super AMOLED displays for their own devices.

Now it looks like Sony and Toshiba may be thinking of working together in producing displays for both smartphones and tablets. No official word yet on whether this is true or not but if it were it could bring about some serious competition to both Samsung and LG. The Bravia engine featured in the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is a pretty good example of what Sony could achieve, so imagine having Sony and Toshiba work together, perhaps Apple might even add them to their components manufacturer.

Stay tuned and we’ll let you know if anything changes.
