Gemalto brings Facebook access to even more phones

Gemalto has just created a new way to access the world’s favorite social network – by running Facebook off a phone’s SIM card through the SIM Toolkit. Similar to carrier-enabled features that ship with most SIM cards, this technology will allow any GSM phone to access the social network. And when they say any phone, they pretty much mean any feature phone available on the market today. Unfortunately users won’t get the complete Facebook experience – just the basic ones like status updates, pokes and friend requests but for those of you Facebook-addicts stuck with a temporary phone while in another country or while waiting for your smartphone to come out of the service center, it’s probably heaven sent.
