Well, according to the analysts over at Informa Telecoms & Media, this might actually be the case as early as 2012. A strong point that they’ve brought up is the hardware developers will be looking to open-sourced software as a way to cut costs during the manufacturing process. Overtake the iPhone? Currently it certainly sounds like a lofty goal, but it certainly might be possible, considering the number of manufacturers who are looking to take up Google’s Android platform.
