Nokia Siemens Speeds Up EDGE
Story posted on: December 8, 2008. Filed in: nokia.

Nokia Siemens Networks has completed its first field test of a rather cool bit of technology that will serve to increase data speeds over EDGE networks. This can be achieved thanks to a software solution called Downlink Dual Carrier EDGE, which is based on the 3GPP release 7 standards, and should be easy for carriers to implement over existing EDGE networks. This enhancement will enable the data speeds to be bumped to 592Kbps, which is similar to today’s 3G WCDMA networks, allowing users to stream video and other perform data intensive activities over the network.
