Jobs Confirms The iPhone Kill Switch
Story posted on: August 11, 2008. Filed in: apple.

When it was discovered that the iPhone had a kill switch that could check back with Apple’s site which could possibly disable/remove some of the programs installed on the iPhone most people obviously weren’t too happy. Steve Jobs has confirmed that such a capability exists, though he argues that Apple would need it in the unfortunate event that some malicious program (such as one that steals users’ personal data) was to be distributed via their App Store. He said “Hopefully we never have to pull that lever, but we would be irresponsible not to have a lever like that to pullâ€. Still, no matter how he says it, it isn’t comforting to know that Apple could kill programs that they deem are bad on users’ iPhones.
