Modified SIM Unlocks The iPhone 3G
Story posted on: July 16, 2008. Filed in: apple.

Users who are bemoaning those carrier-tied iPhones may just sit up at this latest bit of news. A group of Brazilians in Sao Paulo have come up with a cool way to unlock the iPhone. It functions very much like the Turbo SIM unlock for the original iPhone, but doesn’t need to have any additional software pre-installed on the iPhone. It seems that this DesbloqueioBr’s chip just needs to piggy back on a SIM card when inserted into the iPhone, and with a few clicks, the iPhone is unlocked. This hack is achieved by the adapter tricking the iPhone into believing a test SIM has been inserted, and the iPhone will then allow service and functionality to be handed back to the SIM. Brilliant.
