Openmoko’s Neo FreeRunner handset might certainly have the “cool†factor, but it’s very unlikely that you’ll see Joe average using one. Openmoko and Canada-based Koolu are trying to change that though, as Openmoko has just penned a deal with Koolu to distribute the Neo FreeRunner worldwide.
Koolu, which is well known for its innovations in easy-to-use services such as Google Apps and Skype, will kick start it all by distributing the Neo FreeRunner to developers first, followed by consumers as Google Apps goes mobile. Koolu has taken on a rather unique method of marketing the phone, by offering free Neo FreeRunner phones in a referral program for Google Apps world-wide.
Looking further into the future, Koolu is planning to integrate a laser-projected virtual keyboard and a LED projector into future handsets in order to create a portable computer.
