Europe Purchases Disposable Cell Phones

I guess nobody gave much thought to it in the beginning where electronic waste is concerned, but with more and more countries getting ever affluent and its citizens boasting higher purchasing power, cell phones are no longer the domain of the well-heeled. This leads to the problem of older yet functional handsets being dumped every year, which leads to a rather large environmental impact in the end. Europe aims to prevent this negative impact by purchasing 10,000 LCD-less handsets from Texas Instruments that claim to be mother nature friendly. Each handset will cost $20 and was recently unveiled at CTIA in Las Vegas.
