BenQ Announces C36 Music Phone

BenQ Announces C36 Music Phone

BenQ has unveiled its latest music phone, the C36. With the lines between MP3 players and phones blurring, the variety of music phones seem to be on the rise. With BenQ’s latest C36, users get dedicated music buttons to make the music experience an exciting one, not least with the stereo speakers at the back of the phone. Throw in FM radio, and the ability to record the radio directly on the phone, and it’s quite an interesting music phone.

Aside from the usual music applications, BenQ has generously included software not necessarily related to music, such as a health management application, an e-book reader, as well as the ability for the phone to function as a webcam using it’s 1.3 megapixel camera when connected to a computer. Not to mention the necessity for most phones nowadays, which is accepting microSD cards as expansion, allowing people to add memory cards to suit to bring their music library along with them.

Blackberry Flip Phone Rumor Sets Tongues Wagging

Blackberry Flip Phone Rumor Sets Tongues Wagging

Hang on to your seats! Rumors have been floating around the internet that RIM (Research in Motion) is lining up a flip design Blackberry phone, codenamed the Kickstart. Pictures have surfaced picturing it with the usual Blackberry SureType keyboard, not to mention an external LCD. The Kickstart seems to utilize a trackball as well.

This may be the start of a shift for business phones to moving from the boring no-nonsense design to the trendy flip design that everybody seems to love, who knows?

Hug A-998 Phone Does Games, Too

Hug A-998 Phone Does Games, Too

China phones aren't too hot when it comes to the user interface, but you sure as heck can't fault them when it comes to functionality. The A-998 from Hug might look like an old school, slimmed down version of the Sega Game Gear, and it does more than just make/receive calls and text messages. Inside you will find an NES emulator, giving you access to hundreds of 8-bit classics no matter where you go. Just remember, downloading Nintendo ROMs are illegal so unless you want to stain your conscience, steer clear of such ROMs. Other features include :-

  • Touch screen 16 million colors TFT LCD display
  • 1.2 megapixel camera
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • TV-out
  • MP3/MP4 playback
  • USB connectivity
  • microSD memory card slot

No idea on how much it costs though.

New Nokia Concepts

New Nokia Concepts

Nokia has recently introduced a trio of concept phones at its first ever "Design Event" in Central London today that might roll out within 3 to 5 years' time. The first of the trio is a "People First" concept that comprises of a list of people you communicate with based on your last interaction with said person, although I'm not sure where the minimum 3-year delay comes in for what seems like a pretty simple software tweak. Next up is the "Zero Waste Charger" that aims to minimize power consumption, having the device communicate with the charger to activate only when it needs power. Last but not least we have the confusing "Wears in, not out" concept which is already commonplace today. I wonder what the folks at Nokia were smoking when they came up with this statement in their press bulletin.

"As more services become available on our mobile devices this concept explores how people could potentially upgrade their devices digitally rather than physically in the future, giving people an additional choice on how they use and update their mobile phones."

Chanel Coco Concept Phone

Chanel Coco Concept Phone

Chanel is jumping onto the fashionable cell phone bandwagon with this concept dreamed up by Fred de Garihe. It is specially designed to function with an optical fiber system, and has enough looks to melt my heart (and bank account, assuming it ever rolls out of the factory from being a concept at this point in time). I like the way the squares slide upwards, downwards and sideways - it adds a whole new dimension. I think women will definitely prefer this over the iPhone as it resembles more like a make-up kit than anything else.

        Veptu disguised as Luxurious Vertu

        Veptu disguised as Luxurious Vertu

Luxury brand Vertu isn't spared from the nefarious hands of design pirates in Japan, with the cloned products being known as Veptu instead. Needless to say, they look very much like the real thing, where the product description even mentions phone chassis with 18- or 24-carat gold plating as well as diamonds - I find that nigh impossible, considering the price range from $215 to $650. One thing's for sure - you can forget about the concierge service which actual, well-off Vertu customers currently enjoy.
