Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 pre-order pricing hints at release price

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 pre-order pricing hints at release price

SE has not released any official information yet in terms of pricing for their upcoming hot-shot device, the Xperia X1, but a few retailers have already offered some pre-order pricing, giving us a look at what sort or pricing we can be expecting. The prices seem to have a $300 margin of error so we could be looking at a few price alternatives.

MobileCityOnline has the Xperia listed for an ultra high-priced $999, WirelessGalaxy has is listed for $990, but it's currently on sale for $670.99, Smart Mobile Gadgets has it listed for $979.94, CellHUT has it listed for $899.99, but it is currently on sale for $699.99, and Clove Technology has it listed for £395 (around $796 US). So were looking at a range from around $700, upwards to $1,000. If the actual price is on the higher-end, we're getting a notebook instead, because damn!

Verizon U940 Glyde Makes A Live Appearence

Verizon U940 Glyde Makes A Live Appearence

We've already seen some decent shots of the Samsung U940 from Verizon, but we've yet to have seen a good shot of the UI updates which Verizon has made to their newly named Glyde device. Passing through the halls of the FCC in December, the CDMA version of the F700 was captured in a few shots from a member on HowardForums. Thankfully, we can now get a glance of the Glyde's interface, which among other things, wipes the fears clean of the device only having a WAP browser. [Photo Gallery]

LionKing800 makes impossible claims

LionKing800 makes impossible claims

It's hard to truly trust the specs that any company gives you, since they base these projections on the most extreme conditions. For example, the LionKing800 device claims to offer a full year, yes 365 days, of stand-by time. Is this even possible? Maybe if the device is kept at a constant -300 degrees temperature.

While the 16,800 mAh battery used is pretty large, there is no way in hell the thing would maintain a charge for a year. And if a company such as LG or HTC made this claim, there would definitely be some backlash, and possibly some ugly lawsuits, but for a manufacturer of this magnitude, we're pretty sure they'll be just fine. It's one of the reasons companies like this fizzle out.

Google Claims Android Will Outsell iPhone

Google Claims Android Will Outsell iPhone

Google's Rich Miner, group manager for mobile platforms, is nothing but confident about the companies upcoming Android mobile OS. Speaking at the Emerging Communications Conference in Silicon Valley, Miner said he believes that Google's Android platform will match, if not outsell, the over 4 million Apple iPhone's which have been sold, because of the open source platform design..

The Android SDK was downloaded over 750,000 times. And that's for an OS which isn't even available yet. So there is some proof behind the claim. The catch is that multiple phones will be featuring the OS, so we guess it depends on individual phone sales and the hardware available.

Nokia N78 on its way to AT&T? Not that their are many more options for the device, seeing as it has support for 850/1900MHz 3G. Sources have spotted a reference to MEdia Net in the user manual of the Nokia N78, which hints that the device could make a US premiere with AT&T. The N78 features a 3.2 MP camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, AGPS, and a FM Radio, ranking it among the Nseries mid-level devices rumored to be on their way to AT&T, right up along with the fabled N95.

Motorola concept with dual stereo camera

Motorola concept with dual stereo camera

Paris-based design firm Lysandre Follet has introduced their new Motorola concept phone which features a Stereo camera. Featuring two lenses for those ultra-wide shots, and also offering Wi-Fi goodness and Bluetooth. The phone might have been more complete with an added in QWERTY slider or something, but they probably didn't want the phone to appear bloated.

Sony Ericsson W700 with a hidden jolt: Def don't taze me, bro!

Sony Ericsson W700 with a hidden jolt: Def don't taze me, bro!

Don't panic. There is nothing wrong with your W700 battery or device. Police in Nottingham England recently seized a Sony Ericsson W700 which appeared to be a normal device, except had an added "stun" button. Closer inspection yielded the appearance of two small metal prongs projecting from the device, which were capable of delivering 900,000 V of electricity into a human body.

The modded device is 18 times more lethal than your typical 50,000 V taser used by law enforcement. The 21-year-old man, from Hyson Green, who was apprehended with the "phone" was sentenced to aggravated burglary and possessing an offensive weapon. [BBC]

Motorola MOTO Z9 passes through FCC unscathed, coming to AT&T

Back in July, we were witness to the first titterings about Motorola's MOTO Z9, thanks to some leaked specs and pics. More than half a year later, the Z9 has finally passed inspection of the FCC and is one step closer to its journey to the market. And confirming the obvious AT&T branding no less, with that small Death Star logo.

The MOTO Z9 will rock out with 3G capablities and GPS, plus a 2 MP camera and the same Linux-Java based OS, which is used in the PEBL U9, V8 RAZR, and E8 ROKR.

iPhone Dev Team jailbreaks and unlocks iPhone 2.0, months before release

iPhone Dev Team jailbreaks and unlocks iPhone 2.0, months before release

The iPhone SDK brought more than just third-party devs out for the hunt. The iPhone Dev Team hacked their way through the future 2.0 firmware upgrade, and has finagled a pre-emptive jailbreaking and unlocking of the unreleased update.

It seems more logical for Apple to develop a completely unlocked platform, instead of dipping into the money pot with an iTunes App Store. The amount of phones they'll sell compared to the lost revenue from apps would more than make up for the loss, and make some Apple users a very happy crowd, and the company itself a market must.
