Sony Ericsson K850 Cybershot coming to AT&T?

Sony Ericsson K850 Cybershot coming to AT&T?

We've waited and waited for some more information about the Sony Ericsson K850, and it's about time we had some answers concerning a U.S. release. News has come and past concerning the first company to grab up the device in North America, which went to Rogers of Canada. A filing with the FCC hints that the Cybershot K850 could be making an appearance with AT&T in the near future. A few pages of the K850 manual refers to exclusive AT&T services. Not to mention that the phone's quad-band GSM with tri-band UMTS/HSDPA support would suit best with the companies 3G support. [FCC]

T-Mobile parent company to buy Sprint?

T-Mobile parent company to buy Sprint?

Deutsche Telekom, parent firm for T-Mobile, is considering a buy out of Sprint, which could certainly shake the mobile market to its core if such an acquisition takes place. Merrill Lynch comments about the possibility of a Sprint takeover, discussing economic factors that could lead to such a deal.

For one, the new addition of the Sprint Simply Unlimited plan could set off a pricing-war with T-Mobile that the German firm just can't afford, making it a better investment to just purchase the company out-right. The acquisition could also stir up some problems with networking, making T-Mobile drop their GSM service of cutting out CDMA off from Sprint. Are the positives enough to out weigh the negatives?

LG fashion phones KF310 and KF240 get specs, live pics

LG fashion phones KF310 and KF240 get specs, live pics

We sniffed out news that LG would be unveiling a new set of fashion phones at CeBIT 2008, dubbed with the KF model prefix. The KF750, KF240, KF310 are living breathing phones, they just didn't meet the CeBIT calling. LG is supposedly holding out until CTIA.

The good news is that despite the delay, we've managed to get our hands on some live pics of the KF310 and KF240, along with some early spec info. The two devices are undeniably similar, with the only visible difference being a tweaked navigational button here or there. Both devices feature dimensions of 97×48x17 mm, weighing in at 102g. Both feature similar 176×220 displays, Bluetooth 2.0, MP3 players and microSD memory cards. The difference lies in the camera, with one of the devices offering a 1.3 MP sensor and the other at 2 MP. Perhaps there are some networking differences too. We really don't know yet.

Sony Ericsson files for another possible PSP phone

Sony Ericsson files for another possible PSP phone

For a concept with so much ambiguity, Sony Ericsson has been trying their damnedest behind the scenes to bring phone capabilities to the PSP, or even develop a new PSP-esque device. A recently filed patent reveals another possible PSP-phone design to the table, with a new sliding touchscreen device, complete with gaming-centric controls.

Unlike past patent applications, this new filing even mentions the PSP in the patent notes, which says the device is designed to "mimic the look and feel of the popular Sony.TM. Playstation Portable (PSP.TM.) gaming device". [Patent]

Apple releases iPhone SDK: Is it enough?

iPhone SDK: Is it enough?

Apple announced that the iPhone SDK will now be available, built on a new platform dubbed Cocoa Touch, which will enable developers to offer third-party applications available through the iTunes upcoming App Store. All of the big money changes aren't happening until June, but what can the current SDK status tell us?

For one, Apple is still offering nothing in the way for Java or Flash support, but is giving developers the chance to dip their hands into the revenue pot, with a 30% share in all app sales, or of course they can offer the app for free. So, we're hoping for some non-greedy developers. Does the iPhone offer serious competition to Windows Mobile? Not just yet, but the future looks promising once Jobs gets the show on the road with iPhone 2.0 due in late June.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 interface hints at AT&T link

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 interface hints at AT&T link

We haven't been very conspicuous in our excitement over the sexy Xperia X1. The sensual design of the device got our panties all up in a bunch, but there's still so much still unknown about the smartphone. When sources had the chance to play around with the device at CeBIT, some interesting details were discovered.

For one, everything is pointing towards AT&T being the wireless provider which grabs the Xperia, including an AT&T experience logo node sighted on the Xperia interface. Which not only means that they are the lucky ones, but that they are REALLY lucky for grabbing both the Xperia and the iPhone, two devices sure to be the top high-end smartphones for a while.

T-Mobile to expand business to Canada?

T-Mobile to expand business to Canada?

T-Mobile has been keeping a really successful business running. With a strong European following, and being one of the big four US providers, further expansion was bound to come. Sources are reporting that T-Mobile is setting their eyes on expanding to the Canadian market. The one kink in the chain is that current Canadian law requires all telecommunication companies to be Canadian citizens.

Apparently, a liberation of the current mobile iron claw situation isn't too far fetched. And lord knows that Canada could use a company willing to offer lower priced data packages.

    HTC CONV100: What art thou?

    HTC CONV100: What art thou?

According to our sister site Ubergizmo and the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, HTC has a new smartphone in the works called the CONV100. The document states that the phone will be released for Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, so there's a good chance the device will have at least 2.5G capabilities. So little is known about this device, that everything is being left for speculation, but we wouldn't be surprised to see Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR support.
