Reports from "senior industry sources" has led to speculation that the two companies could announce a mobile phone for the Android OS as early as next month's 3GSM expo in Barcelona, even though Google reps deny that any Android related announcement is due in the near future.

Garmin Nüvifone GPS smartphone

Garmin Nüvifone GPS smartphone

Garmin has launched a device that is just as much a GPS satnav device as it is a phone. The GPS giant presents the Nüvifone, a cell that lets you find locations, directions, while making calls on its slick seeming interface. The 3.5G cellular connectivity and Garmin GPS make this device a true hybrid.

Offering maps for North America, Eastern and Western Europe, the Nüvifone offers details for over 1 million points of interest, while also offering support for texting, email, and instant messaging. The Garmin device seems like a dream for those who travel a lot on the road, rather than taking a flight. Look for release in Q3 later this year, as well as an announcement on pricing details closer to then.

Sony Ericsson patent reveals Frankenstein-like phone

Sony Ericsson patent reveals Frankenstein-like phone

It's alive! A new patent by Sony Ericsson shows a device which offers detachable parts, which allows the display and keypad to be mixed, matched, and rearranged. While most mobile devices consist of a basic display-control UI design, this patent would allow for a changeable and interchangeable phone design.

And while it doesn't mention it in the actual patent details, we even see potential for a device in which you can choose your own components, mixing and matching modular parts to create your own personal device.

O2 preps made-for-mobile TV show

O2 preps made-for-mobile TV show

Tomorrow, O2 launches the debut of their made-for-mobile TV show, aptly titled "Cell". Produced with Endemol, the same people who brought us the reality-based Big Brother series, Cell will be released in 20 installments, with each episode lasting a brief 2-minutes long, evidently geared to users on the go.

Each episode will be available for 50p or £3.50 for the entire series. The show itself will be based around a man who finds himself in a maximum security prison, without any knowledge on how he came to be there. If any of you O2 users are interested, text the word Cell to 2020 tomorrow if you want to view the show.

Lenovo calls it quits on all of this mobile stuff

Lenovo calls it quits on all of this mobile stuff

Chinese PC company Lenovo (who bought out IBM's ThinkPad back in 2004), is officially calling it quits on their mobile phone business. Lenovo Mobile isn't well known over here in the states since most of their devices are released in China. The now defunct mobile branch of Lenovo had a very unsuccessful 2007, with a loss of 134 million Yuan.

Lenovo will now be focusing on their PC and notebook business, selling their mobile shares for $100 million to a private firm owned by their parent company, Legend Holdings.

Bell Canada has managed to grab a hold, and release the device even earlier than Verizon. The EV-DO support of the Touch will allow Bell users to take advantage of their high speed internet access.
