Samsung Anycall F338 Celebrity Edition

Samsung Anycall F338 Celebrity Edition

Samsung's latest Anycall F338 Celebrity Edition handset was recently unveiled to the media with much fanfare and aplomb, featuring a mini live concert where Asian artists like Justin Cheng, Kary Ng and RubberBand graced the stage. Samsung claims that the Anycall F338 phone offers the ultimate sound experience, but I have yet to hear it for myself before coming to that conclusion. This 3.5G capable handset carries with it stereo Bluetooth connectivity, a 2 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, a secondary VGA camera, and a microSDHC memory card slot that supports cards up to 4GB in size. No word on its price though, but it sure as heck looks pretty slim for a slider handset.

Sharp to launch AQUOS 822SH

Sharp is prepping for the launch of their AQUOS 822SH device in Japan. The new AQUOS branded device will weigh 120 g, offering 1-Seg support for mobile TV, and built with what sounds like a sturdy aluminum body.

The 822SH will be available in light blue, white silver, black, gold and pink for Japan only on December 15th. Would love to see some sort of 1-Seg access in the states eventually.

Video recording on the iPhone

Video recording on the iPhone

The reasoning behind Apple not having video recording support on the iPhone for its initial release is a matter of debate. The hardware is there, it just seems like a forgotten addition. A new demo application called Drunknbass claims to be able to add video recording to the iPhone at 45 frames per second (when and if a final version is released).

The beta program records 5 second of video at 10 fps, leaving us a little speculative about the 40 fps claim. The recorded video is then played back once, to much applause and geek-led jumps for joy. The final application will record for as much space as you have left on your iPhone (which would be a whole lot of time if you aren't a music hoarder), but more importantly, it shows that video capturing is possible on the phone. Whether or not Apple officially releases a video app is the question.

iPhone to offer support for Microsoft Exchange and Outlook

iPhone to offer support for Microsoft Exchange and Outlook

A new job listing for Apple has revealed that the Cupertino tech boys might have full sync options on the rise. The listing in question is looking for a "motivated, highly-technical Exchange test/sync engineer with excellent problem solving and communication skills."

This could only mean that Apple is planning some serious compatibility support for the Microsoft Exchange mobile e-mail platform. So far, the iPhone has been limited to IMAP functionality under pretty strict conditions when it comes to Microsoft products. Though still speculative, this could eventually lead to the iPhone supporting ActiveSync, which would complete the iPhone as one of the most compatible smartphones.

EU gives thumbs up to Motorola. UIQ deal

EU gives thumbs up to Motorola. UIQ dealMotorola has been ready to pounce at the chance at taking stock for 50% of Sony Ericsson's UIQ mobile OS. The last hurdle for Motorola to jump in order to recieve half control over the Sony Ericsson’s UI Holdings BV (UIQ's parent company) was approval from the European Union. The EU has given Motorola the go ahead, citing no anti-trust disputes to speak of. This could mean many more phones with the Sony OS installed in 2008.

Self-cleaning Sony Ericsson phones

Self-cleaning Sony Ericsson phones

When you get a new phone, it's only a matter of time before fingerprints and various smudge marks distort the beautiful new display. Sony Ericsson has a recently revealed patent that unveils a self-cleaning mobile phone display.

The phone display would get an auto-wash thanks to a windshield wiper-like add-on that would slide across the screen. When the phone is opened, a mechanism moves the wiper up the display, resting at the top of the screen when the phone is in use. The patent shows images for both a clamshell and a slider variation.

Sidekick having some AOL Instant Messanger issues...panic!

Sidekick having some AOL Instant Messanger issues

If you've been having some problems with AIM on your Sidekick, don't worry, you aren't alone. Danger, AOL, and T-Mobile have all already acknowledged there is an issue, though halt there. Mentioning no date of when we can expect a resolution.

The problem results in IM's being delayed, sent out of sequence, or not even sent through at all. T-Mobile says the problem is an AOL issue, though AOL doesn't confirm or deny this is the case. The issue affects all current Sidekick devices. While T-Mobile usually makes good on fixing issues quickly, AOL might have other plans up their sleeves.
