AT&T tells GoPhone users to take a hike

AT&T tells GoPhone users to take a hike

AT&T has reportedly told an iPhone-owning prepaid GoPhone subscriber that they aren't obligated to provide service. So much for being the "most open". Users of the GoPhone service nationwide have reported problems accessing their name servers on the EDGE network recently.

When disgruntled users contact AT&T, they are being gave the boot. AT&T has offered a wide variety of excuses, including; "The iPhone does not work on GoPhone", "There is no EDGE service add-on for GoPhone", and the most humourous "Apple is running its own network for iPhone so we can't support iPhone issues". Sounds to us they just don't want users using prepaid plans so they sign on for contract deals.

    Pogo Stylus for the iPhone

    Pogo Stylus for the iPhone

Some people (including us) still have a problem with the iPhone touch keyboard. Many text messages we send are packed full of Apple inspired grammatical errors. The Pogo Stylus is made for the finger bred interface of the iPhone.

The Pogo Stylus is designed to "hug the contours" if the device with its handy travel accessory which clings to the side of the Apple phone. The design of the stylus also looks to mesh well with the black design of the iPhone. We also imagine it's a helpful way to keep your display smudge-free.

Opera Mini ported for Verizon devices

Opera Mini ported for Verizon devices

Verizon remains pretty defiant on doing things their own way as far as mobile web browsing goes. Verizon devices run on the BREW platform, while most other companies have made the jump to Java J2ME long ago. The Opera Mini browser is one of the hottest mobile web browsers on the market, and it seems like they have made a ported version for the Verizon BREW platform.

All Verizon users can now get Opera Mini for their phones, finally finding an alternative for the insulting broswer currently running on VZW devices. Just be careful. Having a better browser might make you run up your data time, which we know Verizon charges a arm and leg for.

    HTC Shift finally dated?

    HTC Shift finally dated?

The official launch of the HTC Shift device had been delayed from a previous date set for November. Further delays have seemed to push the release of the mini-UMPC device into 2008. HTC has announced an official launch date in Britain for January 11, which leads us to expect we'll see the device at some point around the same time.

If you've already gone ahead and pre-ordered a HTC Shift, you might be left waiting until next year for a late Christmas present. The HTC Shift will offer Microsoft Vista, a QWERTY keyboard and 3G connectivity, in a device not much larger than a typical mobile phone.

Nokia's Comes with Music not limited to Universal

Nokia's Comes with Music not limited to Universal

A few days ago we reported on the new Comes with Music service from Nokia which plans to offer users unlimited access to a music catalog. More details about the service have been sorted out, and sources are not reporting that the Nokia service won't be limited to the Universal Total Music catalog as previously expected.

According to Nokia, the Comes with Music service is "completely independent from the Universal music store", with Universal only being one of the companies that has signed up to contribute to the Nokia service. Details remain hazy on what exactly the service will, and more importantly, won't provide. More details are sure to be hashed out by the launch of the service in mid-2008.

Invisio G5 claims to be smallest headset ever

Invisio G5 claims to be smallest headset ever

Nextlink has revealed their Invisio G5 Bluetooth headset, which the company claims is the smallest Bluetooth headset ever made. Weighing in a a meager 7 grams, the Invisio G5 looks small enough to not only fit in the palm of your hand, but to have plenty of room left to spare.

The Invisio stays in the users ear using a system called Soft Sprung, which allows the small device to lodge itself comfortably in the ear canal. The device offers 4 hours of talk time and 150 hours of stand-by battery life. Pretty impressive for such a tiny device. Invisio is available for £80 ($162.)

Jajah adds VoIP to the iPhone

Jahjah adds VoIP to the iPhone

Yes, yes, we know. It almost seems as if phone blogs are becoming "iPhone blogs". Much of mobile news is dominated by the Apple device, and yet we just can't stop. VoIP provider Jajah released a new web app today that adds internet telephony to the iPhone.

The application even resembles the iPhone's normal keypad, though with a purple zest of liveliness (or tackiness, you be the judge.) The service itself is a little confusing to newcomers. You select the contact you want to call, and Jajah calls you back once they have the other party on the line via VoIP. On top of that, you're still using your own minutes when making these calls, so basically the best use for this service is long-distance service. A pretty nice lower-cost solution for international dialing. (Try Jajah here.)
