Half of the global population uses mobile devices

Worldwide mobile telephone subscriptions have reached 3.3 billion, which is equivalent to half of the world's population. It's taken only 26 years for cell phones to conquer half of the globe. "For children growing up today the issue is not whether they will get a mobile phone, it's a question of when," says Mark Newman, head of research at Informa (the research company who released the information) said. The constant fall of cell phone prices and the massive availability has turned the mobile market into the fastest growing business sector seen in modern times. No doubt this figure will continue to grow.

Publisher's note: don't forget that carriers make money on the subscriptions - not the phones. also, there is a number of people who have more than one subscription, but they are a small minority.
