WordPress admin dashboard optimized for iPhone

WordPress admin dashboard optimized for iPhone WordPress users rejoice! A new plugin called Wphone allows you access to the WordPress admin dashboard in iPhone-style. Users can edit existing posts on their blogs, as well as post new articles. Thanks to an ultra-stripped down interface, relying on the bare HTML of the WordPress site, and with each page GZIPed before it reaches your iPhone, the plugin offers pretty fast access speeds to the interface, saving precious bandwidth for those running off of a slow EDGE connection. Wphone has also created a version of the application for mobile browsers that don't support JavaScript.

Personalize your phone with 8-bit coolness

Personalize your phone with 8-bit coolness

Customization is the fruit of the mobile market. Everyone wants to put their own spin, a little bit of their self into their device. This clamshell concept phone is all about personalization, with a special grid lattice frame which is made to hold colored pins that resemble the gems and crystals used to pimp your phone for a crap load of cash. Create your own designs with a pixelated charm. Special edtion versions could also be released, featuring precious gems, which would help boost the chic-rep of the device. We would definitly give this phone a go if it were to go beyond the concept stage.

Phones to be charged with kinetic energy

Phones to be charged with kinetic energy

M2E Power has been playing around with a concept of a rechargeable battery which runs off of kinetic energy alone. Kinetic evergy is electricity produced by natural motions, like when moving your hands. Not only could these this help out our thriving environment (a little), but could also offer up to 3 to 7 times longer powered time than standard batteries, or so M2E says. All in all, the batteries cost around the same to produce as current batteries, even using less metals. The future goal is to utilize devices to integrate the new kinetic battery to give it a truly public test run. M2E says that devices with such batteries will be seen by 2010.

New Nokia patent reveals dual display clamshell

New Nokia patent reveals dual display clamshell

A newly released patent reveals a new device by Nokia, a folding clamshell phone with dual displays, one display being in place of the keypad. The new device will have one touchscreen and one non-tactile screen, similar to the Nintendo DS portable gaming console. This new device throws a few new tricks at us with a feature that allows the bottom display to be used as a keypad when the phone is open at a 160 degree angle, though doubles as an extended display for the first screen when opened to 180 degrees.

Over half of U.S phones are 3G

Over half of phones sold in US are 3G According to sources, about 55% of phones sold in the US in the 3G of this year are 3G models, despite the lack of strong 3G networking in the states.

The Motorola RAZR and KRZR and LG models make up 7 of the top ten models. Despite Motorola having four devices in the top ten, their Average Selling Price (ASP) stood at $80, considerably lower than the group average. The next stop is a surge in 3.5G phones, possibly leading to a WiMAX capability… may be.

AT&T's blowout Black Friday sale leaked

AT&T's blowout Black Friday sale leaked

The Boy Genius Report never ceases to amaze us with these "leaked" ads they always turn up. Starting Black Friday, and sadly ending that very following Sunday, AT&T will be offering 50% off prices on a selection of their popular phones. And no, the iPhone is not included. Didn't think you'd get off that easy? ;-) Here are the phones that will be included with this special sale:

* Samsung a737 for $24.99
* Sony Ericsson w580i for $24.99
* BlackBerry Curve (8310, not 8300!) for $99.99
* Pantech Duo for $99.99
* Motorola RAZR 2 V9 for $149.99

All of these prices are redeemed after sending in mail-in rebates, and there's always that pesky new 2-year contract you have to sign. Still, this is quite a deal.

Unidentified Chinese candybar phone

Unidentified Chinese candybar phone

This nameless Chinese mobile device features a really cool LCD based navigation and display, which vanishes when not in use. The blue color of the display meshes really well with the chrome plating of its frame, but what is with that "Vogue Lifestyle" lettering on the side of the phone. This is an instance where we would just love to punch the designer in the face for choosing such an obtrusive spot for this branding (?) to be displayed. Even if this phone doesn't have an official name (that we know of) so far, that doesn't mean we don't have the specs for you.

The phone features a 2.2 inch 260K color 176x220 display along with a VGA camera, not to mention support for microSD, Bluetooth, and stereo speakers. The phone carries dimensions of 110x48x15 mm, weighing 85 grams. That horrible lettering really kills it for us. Otherwise, its one sexy looking phone.

Java and games on iPhone in '08?

Java and games on iPhone in '08? The Java gurus over at Sun have issued an early prediction of when we might be seeing Java be integrated onto the iPhone.

With the much needed SDK being released in February 2008, Terrence Barr, a member of the Sun community says that Java will most likely be able to be integrated into the development of software for the iPhone, opening up a whole new realm of possibilities for the Apple mobile device.

Of course, no one really knows what Steve Jobs and the Apple crew have in store for their mobile users, though more should be known after the upcoming MacWorld annual convention. And to think, it was only last year at this event where the iPhone was announced.

T-Mobile to offer unlocked iPhone for 999 Euros

T-Mobile to offer unlocked iPhone for 999 Euros

Here is the latest update to the mobile conflict taking place in Germany over the last week. Vodafone disputed T-Mobile's right to have a monopoly on the iPhone.

At this point, T-Mobile stands by their right to be the sole network provider for the iPhone in Germany, but T-Mobile is apparently set to offer an unlocked version of the iPhone for 999 Euros (around $1500, Yikes! ) so that some customers can get the phone and choose another carrier, if they want to. That’s in addition to T-Mobile’s regular iPhone+Service contract plan.

By doing this, T-Mobile can claim that customers have “a choice” and shut Vodaphone’s complaint, but the price will effectively deter most of them by raising the overall cost of ownership, except if the folowing happens: 1/ Vodaphone can lower their data plan cost to compensate for the high price. 2/ If customers will use Wi-Fi only and don’t want to be tied up with a data plan for two years. Vodaphone is likely going to continue its complaint.
