HTC Touch Color special edition

HTC is launching three special edition models of their HTC Touch handsets. The special models will add a dash of color to the devices, with anime styled art on the phones surface. These special edition models will only be released in Taiwan, leaving European and North American users on the lurch again, but no worries. The HTC Touch special edition phones still have the same specs as the ones which will be available to everyone else in major mobile markets.

Nokia Nseries site adds N82 countdown

Nokia Nseries site adds N82 countdown

The Nokia N82, which we've seen popping up around the world on display and in test use, has been given a special countdown clock on the Nokia Nseries website. We predicted yesterday that all of these sightings could only mean that the launch of the N82 was drawing closer. The countdown clock proves these predictions to be true, setting the launch for November 14th, 7:00 am EST. Seeing the Xenon flash on this device made us excited to see the actual official launch. Luckily for us, and all of you eagerly wawaiting news on the N82, it seems the launch will be arriving soon.

Sprint and Clearwire call off WiMAX talks

Sprint and Clearwire call off WiMAX talks

After failing to reach an agreement on a plan to make a nationwide WiMAX (a longer-range version of WiFi) network, Sprint and Clearwire have called off talks on the joint high-speed mobile internet project. Back in July the two companies had signed a letter of intent, purposing plans to work together on a WiMAX network, which was originally planned to be worked out in 60 days. With the departure of Sprint's CEO Gary Forsee last month, forming a pact has become too much much for the two companies to manage at this time. It is unclear at this time whether the two companies will give it another go at some point. Both Sprint and Clearwire are the only two companies known to be seeking out WiMAX joint ventures.

FCC gives Nokia E51 thumbs up

FCC gives Nokia E51 thumbs up

Nokia's newest member to the ESeries line of phones, the E51, has been given the go ahead by the FCC. The E51 has not been given any confirmed release date, though the low to mid-end device seems like a nice little upgrade for a consistently usable line of phones. At least its good enough for the FCC's standards at least. If you really want one you can grab a European version, maybe try a little unlocking hack job yourself, though this device is probabaly just worth waiting for a U.S. release. Here are some specs to keep you waiting:

Specs

  • quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz); WCDMA 850/2100
  • dimensions: 4.49" x 1.81" x 0.47", 3.53 oz
  • S60 (Symbian)

Image of the Nokia N82 Xenon flash

Image of the Nokia N82 Xenon flash

Images of this device have been popping up around the world more than Carmen Sandiego, but that still doesn't stop our interest when we see this great capture of the backside of the Nokia N82. Getting a real look at the Xenon flash on the phone makes it much more real, and its slick integration is pretty exciting. Just a little recap of the N82: 5 MP camera with Car Zeiss optics, WiFi, HSDPA 2100 MHz, quadband GSM, and of course that beautiful flash. We should be getting a better idea of when the N82 will actually be released. Where there's smoke, there's fire, meaning all of these devices popping up around the world probably means a launch is coming soon.

iPhone v1.1.2 coming tommorow

iPhone v1.1.2 coming tommorow

We were just starting to get used to having out phones unlocked again with the AppSnapp application from jailbreakme.com, and now a "confirmed" rumor is being reported, that the v1.1.2 firmware upgrade for the iPhone will be released tomorrow. The news was announced at a special meeting with the UK Apple press team this morning. As rumored by a UK user who said they already were running the firmware upgrade on their phone, the update will add additional multi-language support, as well as access to The Cloud WiFi spots. Although Apple didn't comment on the matter of the iPhone Jailbreak software, it is also widely believed that this new update will once again block the use of the famed Installer.app.

Pen Phone concept

Pen Phone concept

If you patrol the gadget blogs you have surely seen similar "pen phone" devices, but not one nearly as small and sleek as this concept design. The numerals line the body of the pen, with a mini-LCD dot matrix display and a control wheel at the top of the pen where the clicker usually is (we're guessing it doubles as a clicker). While with a device so small, many people will want to use a Bluetooth device for talking, though the two target shaped designs on the pens body are actually incoming and outgoing speakers. I do worry though, since I have so much trouble keeping tabs on my normal writing utensils, if I were to lose this pen, I doubt I would be as passive about it as a normal Bic.

Sprint improves cancellation fees

Sprint improves cancellation fees

Sprint announced today, that they will be changing the way they handle users switching plans and canceling their contracts. Starting Monday, customers will be able to switch plans without extending their contracts, which allows subscribers to opt for a different offered plan if they decide the one they are on doesn't fit their usage. Sprint agents will also keep tabs on customers who go over their allotted minutes, making sure the users don't want to change to a plan that better fits their needs. Sprint will also add an extra cancellation service, which allows a pro-rated cancellation fee for those who have been on their current contract for a longer period of time, meaning the longer you stay with Sprint, the cheaper is is to cancel your plan. Sprint has also mentioned launching a special veteran's reward service by early next year, yet will release more details closer to launch.

Screenshot of Google Android's first app?

Screenshot of Google Android's first app?

Last month, WhatsOpen, a start up company that had a mysterious and unknown purpose, yet had caught Google co-founder Sergey Brin's eye, was being kept on a strictly hush-hush basis between the company and Google. Today, first screenshots of WhatsOpen's secret project have been released, and the application could very well be one of the first added to the Google Android OS. The company has reportedly been working on a mapping GPS integrated software that shows users nearby stores and their hours of operation, hence the name, "WhatsOpen". Sources also report that WhatsOpen has written the first wireless app for the Google-made Android OS.

New pricing for Fido's 3G network

Fido launches new, cheaper 3G network Following complaints from customers about their 3G service, Fido has announced some tweaks and additional services to be added to their network. Customers were previously paying for data plans ranging from 1MB for $12 and 200MB for $100.

The newly tweaked plans offer data plans for 12 MB costing $10 per month; or $18/month with a special "value pack" that also includes enhanced voice messaging, caller ID name display, as well as 2,500 SMS messages per month. Fido has also added video, radio, and TV services, including a new video calling service. Of course if your using Fido on a Windows Mobile phone, there are plenty of free open source applications you can download for use with your PDA, with no real need for an added radio and TV plan, which can cost you another $15-$30 per month.

Let’s be clear: the dollar amount is lower but the cost per MB is still sky high. If you go over the bandwidth limit, your wallet is going to scream…
