Skype and UK carrier 3 to launch VoIP handset
Story posted on: October 14, 2007. Filed in: others.
Skype has announced plans to release a VoIP compatible mobile phone with UK wireless carrier 3. The plan is to make a phone able to make normal wireless calls on 3's network, but also offers a wireless VoIP call plan for internet calls. All of the VoIP calls would be made through the Skype network, totally free of charge providing customers are close in proximity to a WiFi connection. Details on the Skype phone are pretty slim at the moment, though AT&T and Verizon have already announced plans at offering high-end phones that will offer VoIP support.
