BlackBerry solution now in Algeria

BlackBerry solution now in Algeria
Those living in Algeria will soon be able to take advantage of the BlackBerry wireless solution courtesy of the mobilis network, enabling users to send and receive emails, make phone calls, send text messages, and browse the Internet over their BlackBerries. Well, looks like that's another country that has fallen under the BlackBerry influece (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, mind you) - does your country support BlackBerry services at the moment? Are you a CrackBerry addict who have this innate need to remain connected at all times?

UTStarcom unveils Super Slice

UTStarcom unveils Super Slice
UTStarcom is offering the Super Slice candybar cellphone, and judging by the name itself, this is an updated version of the Slice. Features include Bluetooth connectivity for handsfree calling, a VGA camera (a disappointment considering how other cellphones these days come with 2 or 3 megapixels at the very least), a speakerphone functionality, and access to Virgin's digital content. It will slice your budget by $59.99 if you want to pick this handset up when it is released sometime in the middle of this month.

Verizon Wireless unveils Coupe

Verizon Wireless unveils Coupe
Now I know most of the older folk would have had lost the verve for life, preferring instead to settle for a family car instead of a coupe, but Verizon Wireless aims to inject some fun into senior citizens' lives with the Coupe cellphone. This handset comes with large keys and a dummy-proof (nearly, anyway) user interface and will be complemented by new calling plans for those aged 65 and above. The Coupe measures 96.5mm x 45.7mm x 20.3mm and weighs 93.5 grams, where a row of 3 keys at the bottom of the screen provides quick access to emergency contacts. Handy applications include a tip calculator, a calendar, and a world clock. You can also take advantage of the voice dialing feature, while various color codes have been introduced for different functions. The Coupe will retail for $29.99 with a new 2-year service plan.

BlackBerry Pearl gets color refresh

BlackBerry Pearl gets color refresh

If you think the current BlackBerry Pearl is nothing much to shout about in terms of design, you'd be pleased to know that it has now received a color refresh available in blue, red, and gold. You can be expected to bust out that piggy bank anytime soom since these new handsets have already appeared on T-Mobile's site. Other than the color change, everything else inside remains the same - would a change in color move your wallets and credit cards to purchase one?

BenQ T80 powered by Windows Mobile

BenQ T80 powered by Windows Mobile
BenQ has unveiled the T80 to excite smartphone fans, and judging from the specifications, this Windows Mobile-powered handset is nothing to sneeze at. It features WiFi connectivity as well as NFC (Near Field Capability) - something unheard of in other smartphones. The keypad somewhat resembles that of Motorola's RAZR, featuring a rather glossy exterior that will surely attract fingerprints like moths to a lamp. Other features include a microSD memory card slot and e-wallet capability. Guess this opens up more avenues for hackers to come in and steal your life savings, but hey - what are the chances of that? Just try not to put too much cash in that account at any one time and you ought to be good.

Eten X800 sneak peek

Eten X800 sneak peek
Eten's X800 Windows-based smartphone has not yet been officially released, but here's a sneak peek of it. It will be powered by Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional and run on the Samsung SC3 2442 500MHz processor, featuring 3G connectivity and dual cameras (where obviously one will be used for video calls and the other for high resolution candid shots). The screen also boasts a lovely VGA resolution at 640 x 480 pixels, while a microSD memory card slot, integrated GPS navigation, and WiFi connectivity rounds off the list of features. Talk about having some power in your pocket.

Nokia E51 to come soon?

Nokia E51 to come soon?

Word on the street has it that there is a brand new E-Series device on the way, and this time it will be the Nokia E51 which is powered by the Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1. What you get with this business-class smartphone includes GSM, EDGE, WCDMA, HSDPA and WiFi data connectivity, a QVGA display and the standard numeric phone keypad. No idea on when it will be available nor how much it costs though.

i-Mate to launch a dozen Windows phones

i-Mate to launch a dozen Windows phones
i-Mate has just confirmed that they will be launching 12 new Windows-powered cellphones across three different product ranges. This news comes as a surprise after their break-up with HTC last November, where i-Mate has remained extremely quiet. We do know a couple of low end models will be called the i-Mate JAMA, retailing within the $350 range, while the i-Mate Urban has four handsets and priced along the mid-range $550 figure. For those looking for even more punch, the i-Mate Ultimate range has half a dozen smartphones on offer, being different in terms of keyboards, screen, and format with prices touching a wallet crushing $950. At that price, the Ultimate line had better come with a kitchen sink.

Palm Centro sneak peek

Palm Centro sneak peek
PDAFrance has some more images of the upcoming Palm Centro, and judging by the photos, it eerily resembles the BlackBerry Pearl design. Well, at the very least you'll still be able to get acquainted with the extremely familiar Palm icons if you haven't yet been swept up in the Windows Mobile euphoria. The Palm Centro is tipped to be announced in Europe when September 12 rolls around, although I have absolutely no idea on why the Stateside front is very quiet on this. Perhaps Palm knows it is a losing battle to release this in the US?

P9521 cellphone from Porsche Design

P9521 cellphone from Porsche Design
If you're thinking of looking your best this fall with a cellphone to match that killer suit, perhaps the P'9521 cellphone from Porsche Design would do the trick. It comes with innards from Sagem, where the main draw (other than its handsome looks of course) would be a biometric sensor that identifies the user via fingerprints. The housing is also unique, being milled from a single solid aluminum block so you can be sure there won't be any flimsy pieces of plastic here. Other features include a scratch-resistant screen in mineral glass and high-resolution digital camera. The P'9521 cellphone will be available in Europe from this fall onwards, while those living across the Atlantic will have to wait until spring next year.

Motorola ROKR E7

Motorola ROKR E7
Motorola's new ROKR E7 certainly looks far better than previous iterations of the same line, boasting a 2.8" 16.7 million color touchscreen display (is it just me or is everyone jumping onto the touchscreen bandwagon?), Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, USB 2.0, GPS navigation, EDGE and WLAN support. Heck, Motorola has even thrown in a 5 megapixel camera with CCD matrix from Kodak and a xenon flash, an integrated FM radio, and an SD/SDHC memory card slot. This will be a Linux-powered smartphone and the features certainly lie on the high-end section of things. You'll probably have to fork out a handsome amount for this aluminum-based cellphone. Just remember to wipe fingerprints off it often to maintain its shine and lustre.
