N81 first looks

N81 first looks

As expected, the Nokia N81 was finally unveiled to much 'oohs' and 'ahhs', and what's even more surprising would be the fact that it will be available in a couple of models. First off we have the 8GB integrated flash memory model, while the other accepts only microSD memory cards. Other than that, the new N81 will come with stereo speakers, support for MP3, AAC, and WMA formats among others, compatibility with N-Gage games, an integrated FM receiver, a Navi wheel, and a pre-loaded version of RealPlayer. Would you take the microSD version over the 8GB model? I'd personally gun for the former since it is easier to organize and separate my files into different microSD cards. No word on how much the N81 costs, but chances are it'll burn a hole in your pocket when Q4 comes around.

Sony to come out with phone?

Sony to come out with phone?
Word on the street has it that the head honchos as Sony Ericsson are currently mulling over the prospect of integrating the PlayStation name into a cellphone. According to Peter Ahnegard who is in charge of all things gaming from Sony Ericsson, "Up until today we haven’t felt we could launch a PlayStation phone because it wouldn’t be recognised as a true continuation of that brand of products. It’s obviously something that we’re looking at but right now I can’t really comment. Before Christmas, certainly… but exactly which Christmas I can’t confirm!". Sounds like a phone-capable PSP is in the works, and I certainly can't help but look forward to it.

It will be launched in China first, enabling you to use NFC technology for close range data transfers which include beaming media files, securing mobile payments, or other practical uses that you can dream up of. NFC technology operates along 13.56MHz, and is capable of beaming 1s and 0s at speeds that max out at 424kbps. All you need to do to initiate the connection is wave or touch both of them together within a 4cm radius, where subsequent communication can be carried out via Bluetooth or WiFi.

BlackJack could get WM6 next month

BlackJack could get WM6 next month
Users of the Samsung BlackJack have heard word that a new ROM would be released sometime in the summer, but now that summer is all but over, there is no sight of Windows Mobile 6 at all. There is still life in this rumor though, with whispers promoting the production release of Windows Mobile 6 for the BlackJack to hit streets on September 17th next month. While that might sound like a long way off, what's three weeks after waiting for a few months? Will you be making the upgrade by then should the update actually be released?

In addition to the N81, it is rumored that the 8GB N95 as well as other XpressMusic handsets will also debut in London.
