LG Prada dipped in gold

LG Prada dipped in gold

LG's Prada fashion handset is definitely a looker, but when you dip it in 24 karat gold, the desirability level shoots through the roof. That's exactly what LG has done with this cellphone, retaining all the internal features such as the included Web browser, email client, and MP3 player. In order to pick up this drool-worthy handset , you will need to fork out $989. As to whether such a price makes it worth a purchase or not, that remains to be seen. I suppose beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, and if you think it is worth the price, then go ahead and place your order.

Nokia 6500 receives FCC blessings

Nokia 6500 receives FCC blessings

The 'gods' at the FCC have just given their collective nod of approval for the Nokia 6500, so those who are interested in picking one up can start saving today. Features include a 2.2" QVGA LCD display, a microSD memory card slot (up to 4GB), Push-to-Talk, a USB interface for data synchronization and charging, and a 3.2 megapixel camera boasting Carl Zeiss optics. The most interesting aspect of this slider handset would be the inclusion of a TV-out jack that lets you make TV calls on your TV. A full fledged email client and IM application rounds off the list of features. The Nokia 6500 is set to be available in Q3 and will retail for €370.

Samsung i450 in the works

Samsung i450 in the works

Somehow spy shots of a product seem to be both a blessing and a curse - after all, you can't really tell what the final product looks like, just as how the Samsung i450 is featured here. A Czech mobile site has some images of this upcoming slider from Korea, and with it come a whole slew of speculative specifications. Rumor has it that the Samsung i450 will feature tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900, UMTS and 3.6Mbps HSDPA connectivity, a 2.3" 262k color QVGA display, a 2 megapixel camera behind and a VGA camera up front for video calls, Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0 connectivity, 1GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot. IFA 2007, will thou reveal the Samsung i450 then?

Sprint gets HTC Vogue

Sprint gets HTC Vogue

Sprint users, rejoice! The wireless carrier will be bringing the HTC Vogue (also known as the HTC Touch) complete with a bunch of upgrades that cater not only to the innards but its aesthetics as well. The Sprint HTC Vogue will see a 400Mhz processor inside, doubling the speed found in the GSM version of the Touch. They've even thrown in EV-DO connectivity that's upgradeable to Rev. A for superior surfing speeds. Word on the street also has it that the Sprint HTC Vogue will come with a larger on-screen keyboard, although that has yet to be confirmed. Are you a physical keyboard kind of person, or you don't really mind a virtual keyboard?

Windows Live on Symbian phones

Windows Live on Symbian phones
While stranger things have happened, it is surprising to see Nokia teaming up with Microsoft, bringing ActiveSync support and Windows Live services to Symbian users. This software will enable Symbian users to access their Hotmail and MSN Messenger programs along with ActiveSync. To know if your Symbian-powered handset is compatible with this new software, just type ‘*#0000#’ and check the version. Anything at or higher than 3.0638.0.01 is good to go. Currently, the service is available only in Europe with no word on when will it be made accessible to the rest of the world. Bummer.

Alcatel OT-E221 goes back to the basics

Alcatel OT-E221 goes back to the basics
I don't suppose you could get any more basic than with the Alcatel OT-E221. The outer surface looks as though it is made out of leather, but it actually isn't. The price will definitely surprise you - while they aren't exactly free, the £14.99 (roughly $30) you fork out for one of these is negligible. Of course, many features on other cellphones that we take for granted are also stripped out, including the camera and media player which are considered staples in this day and age. Choose from hot pink, black, glossy blue and vibrant orange colors. The Alcatel OT-E2201 will be available from Woolworths this September.

Motorola Motorokr Z6 Duo Aria

Motorola Motorokr Z6 Duo Aria
Motorola Australia has just announced the launch of the Motorokr Z6 Duo Aria edition that provides direct access to the Motorola Aria chart from the handset itself (Aria stands for Australian Recording Industry Association). Each purchase comes with a bonus content card and the spanking new Motorokr S9 Bluetooth stereo headphones. The main menu on the Motorokr Z6 Duo Aria features a new music button that offers the aforementioned Aria chart, including a Motorola Artist of the Month page complete with exclusive content and competitions. Too bad this special edition handset is available only in Australia with no word on whether similar themed cellphones will be released elsewhere.

QKfone A9 from China

QKfone A9 from China

The QKfone A9 is one interesting handset with very little information available about it. All we know is it comes with a touchscreen interface and features a microSD memory card slot, a phonetic notation for easy typing, and supports shakes (whatever that means?). Audio lovers who tend to carry their personal music collection on a cellphone will be pleased to know that the QKfone A9 boasts high bass and treble performance. Pricing and availability details of this handset have yet to be confirmed.

LG Viewty to be launched soon

LG Viewty to be launched soon
The LG Viewty, also known as the LG KU990, is a touchscreen cellphone that features advanced imaging functions packed into an extremely stylish handset. While it looks extremely desirable, I must say the naming convention could do with a little bit more work. Feature-wise, the Viewty cannot be faulted as it already comes with a 5.1 megapixel camera with manual focus and image stabilizer features, the world's first 120 fps video recording feature, and single-click connection to YouTube. The LG Viewty will first be revealed at IFA 2007 at the end of this month, and will be available for purchase on contract in the UK later this year. Pricing details have yet to be confirmed.

Nokia 6085 mid-range handset

Nokia 6085 mid-range handset
Nokia's 6085 might share plenty in common with the 6086 when it comes to looking alike, but the former does not feature WiFi support found in the latter. The 6085 is basically a mid-range handset that does what it is supposed to do just fine, offering decent call quality and a low-key design. Those with a penchant for the flamboyant might want to think twice about picking this up since the 6085 is hardly a handset that will turn heads whenever you whip it out.

FCC approves Sony Ericsson T658c

FCC approves Sony Ericsson T658c

Looks like the Sony Ericsson T658c is safe to be unleashed upon the public after receiving the nod of approval from the FCC. The 'c' suffix means it will target the China market, and it does come with some pretty high end specifcations such as a 3.2 megapixel camera, support for Java J2ME applications and games, a flight mode, integrated audio playback, and a full-fledged email client inside that is capable of handling POP3/IMAP4 email. Not only does the 3.2 megapixel camera take pictures, it is also capable of shooting video as well. Pricing and availability details are currently located in the Bermuda Triangle - which basically means non-existant.

Samsung SCH-U900 pic

Samsung SCH-U900 pic
While the delicious looking Samsung SCH-U900 has not yet been released, at least there are images of it floating around at the moment, and stunning ones no less. This clamshell handset comes with a 3 megapixel camera that ought to make it a pretty decent pocket camera, but don't expect it to replace your dedicated digital camera anytime soon. Expect other standard features such as Bluetooth connectivity and EV-DO support to accompany this high end handset.
