Motorola unveils new iDen phones

Motorola unveils new iDen phones
Motorola has a couple of iDen handsets that were recently rolled out, and they are the iDen i355 and the combo iDen/EVDO i605. The former is an entry level handset that takes the candybar route and will definitely be the ugly kid on the block, featuring a rubbery keypad, a textured back, and silvery, rubbery sides. The iDen i605 on the other hand, is a mid-range combo Sprint/Nextel phone that boasts EVDO connectivity and comes with a 2 megapixel camera. Unfortunately, it lacks a memory card slot of any kind or music playback. The i355 and i605 will be released before the year is over at a yet undisclosed price.

Portege G500 with fingerprint reader

Portege G500 with fingerprint reader

The Toshiba Portege G500 certainly looks set to be a powerful handset by any means. Taking the slider form factor, the G500 features full wireless push email support, Internet browsing capability, WiFi and HSDPA connectivity, a 2.3" QVGA display, and a purportedly excellent battery life. The highlight would be its fingerprint recognition software that lets you unlock the device, letting you be the only one to be able to use it. Between this and the 80GB PS3, which would you pick up? I would definitely settle for the latter as the games on it are shaping up rather nicely, while I don't venture beyond making and receiving both voice calls and text messages on my handset. In any case, look out for the Toshiba Portege G500 early next month.

FCC hails HTC Kaiser

FCC hails HTC Kaiser
The FCC has just given their collective nods of approval for the HTC Kaiser. This will be a Windows Mobile 6.0-powered smartphone and will come in three variants. These three variants include the KAIS100, the KAIS110, and the KAIS120. The KAIS100 is blessed with a 3 megapixel camera while the KAIS110 won't have a single camera, but the KAIS120 has both a 3 megapixel camera and a VGA one in front which means this will probably come with 3G/HSDPA support. Additional features include WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, a full QWERTY keyboard, a pivoting screen, as well as GPS navigation. There's no word on pricing or availability, but chances are it will be available from AT&T.

AT&T gets Samsung SGH-A117

AT&T gets Samsung SGH-A117
Fancy picking up a budget handset? You can now do so with the Samsung SGH-A117 from AT&T. It is currently on offer for just $60, although you will have to tie yourself to their contract for a couple of years. The SGH-A117 is nothing but a basic clamshell handset that targets those who don't want anything more than just making voice calls as well as send text messages. If you're looking for a first cellphone to pick up for your child, the SGH-A117 would do very nicely although inferiority complex might set in all too soon when your child lays eyes on his/her friends' more advanced handsets.

Picture leak of Sony Ericsson P3i

Picture leak of Sony Ericsson P3i

Sony Ericsson might have just launched the P1i smartphone, but image leaks show that there is a larger, more powerful version in the works. This new model is known as the P3i and it will come with a touchscreen display, but other than that nothing else concrete is known. The P3i should stand a pretty good chance to ship with WiFi connectivity, 3G (with HSDPA as a possibility), and a 3 megapixel camera. While this would definitely make a great looking flagship smartphone, Sony Ericsson will probably concentrate on their efforts in promoting the P1i which is still fresh in the eyes of the public before pulling out this huge gun.

Pantech C150 hits the US

Pantech C150 hits the US

Americans will be able to wrap their fingers around this delicious looking entry-level handset from Pantech. Known as the Pantech C150, this handset might come with a paltry VGA camera, although the inclusion of flash sweetens the deal. Bluetooth connectivity is a luxury for phones of its class, while GPRS rounds off the C150's list of features. The Pantech C150 is available from AT&T for $200 without any service plan, or you can pick this up for free after signing a new two-year contract. This is one of the better looking cellphones for those who are looking for a basic yet functional handset.

Sky Shooting Star launched

Sky Shooting Star launched
Sky has just launched the Shooting Star cellphone in Korea, and this rotating clamshell cellphone also goes by the model number IM-U200. Designed after a spacecraft, the Shooting Star comes with a rather uncomfortable looking keypad, Bluetooth connectivity for a wireless Personal Area Network that lets you achieve true hands-free calls, a 1.3 megapixel camera, an integrated MP3 player, an electronic dictionary, and text viewer functions. It will hit the streets for approximately $545 - now that's a pretty high price for something so ordinary (feature-wise).

Asus smartphone rumor surfaces

Asus smartphone rumor surfaces
Don't you just love rumors? They often bring you to the realm of fantasy with the tantalizing carrot that it could actually be reality, just like this new A-series Asus smartphone. Word has it that a Marvel 520MHz PXA27x processor runs the show, aided by 256MB ROM and 128MB RAM. Windows Mobile 6 Professional will be the operaing system of choice, and other features include a SiRFStar III GPS chipset, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, a built-in FM radio, and a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, all packed into a GSM/GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA. Now this pretty much sounds like it has you covered across all fronts, just keep your fingers crossed that this smartphone will one day materialize off production lines.

Samsung SGH-P520 looks like Prada

Samsung SGH-P520 looks like Prada
Looks like imitation is still the best form of flattery as Samsung's SGH-P520 resembles the LG Prada in the looks department. This triband GSM/EDGE cellphone comes without a keypad, although it remains to be seen whether the display is touchscreen capable (which it most probably is - how else are you going to navigate your way through considering there are only answer buttons at the bottom?). Crammed inside this 8.9mm thin handset includes a 3 megapixel camera, 50MB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, and WiFi connectivity. Pricing and availability details are currently unknown.

Should there be no carrier-exclusive availability, you ought to be able to pick up the HTC Vogue from either Verizon Wireless or Sprint. The HTC Vogue, assuming it is as small and sexy as the Touch, will definitely prove its namesake right amongst consumers judging by rave reviews of the Touch.
