The Toshiba Portege G500 certainly looks set to be a powerful handset by any means. Taking the slider form factor, the G500 features full wireless push email support, Internet browsing capability, WiFi and HSDPA connectivity, a 2.3" QVGA display, and a purportedly excellent battery life. The highlight would be its fingerprint recognition software that lets you unlock the device, letting you be the only one to be able to use it. Between this and the 80GB PS3, which would you pick up? I would definitely settle for the latter as the games on it are shaping up rather nicely, while I don't venture beyond making and receiving both voice calls and text messages on my handset. In any case, look out for the Toshiba Portege G500 early next month.

Sony Ericsson might have just launched the P1i smartphone, but image leaks show that there is a larger, more powerful version in the works. This new model is known as the P3i and it will come with a touchscreen display, but other than that nothing else concrete is known. The P3i should stand a pretty good chance to ship with WiFi connectivity, 3G (with HSDPA as a possibility), and a 3 megapixel camera. While this would definitely make a great looking flagship smartphone, Sony Ericsson will probably concentrate on their efforts in promoting the P1i which is still fresh in the eyes of the public before pulling out this huge gun.

Americans will be able to wrap their fingers around this delicious looking entry-level handset from Pantech. Known as the Pantech C150, this handset might come with a paltry VGA camera, although the inclusion of flash sweetens the deal. Bluetooth connectivity is a luxury for phones of its class, while GPRS rounds off the C150's list of features. The Pantech C150 is available from AT&T for $200 without any service plan, or you can pick this up for free after signing a new two-year contract. This is one of the better looking cellphones for those who are looking for a basic yet functional handset.

Samsung has just launched the Ultra Messaging handset which measures a mere 11.8mm thin in Korea. Also known as the SCH-M620 or SPH-M6200, the Ultra Messaging cellphone keeps you connected at speeds of up to 1.8Mbps - a whopping 500% improvement in terms of performance in current WCDMA cellphones. The Ultra Messaging phone will be powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 for Smartphones OS and comes with a 2.3" QVGA LCD display, a 1.3 megapixel camera with video recording capability, a built-in MP3 player, and Bluetooth connectivity. If you think this looks all too familiar, it is actually the Blackjack. Koreans can expect to pick this up for less than $545.
