Cect 599 takes iPhone route

Cect 599 takes iPhone route

The Cect 599 from China shares plenty of design cues from Apple's iPhone, and the 599 model number resembles that of the iPhone's price as well. It comes with a 3.2" touchscreen display that boasts 240 x 400 WQVGA resolution which is easy on the eye, but too bad that good work is undone with video playback support of just 176 x 144 pixels. Other features include Bluetooth connectivity, dual speakers, and a 1.3 megapixel camera, all crammed into a 90 gram body. The Cect 599 retails for $150 and lacks any internal memory, relying instead on a microSD memory card slot for your storage purposes.

Cect K898 3G phone

Cect K898 3G phone

Looks like the Cect K898 handset from China is going to feature 3G connectivity due to the presence of two cameras. This is no ordinary slider phone, however, as it comes with a twistable camera module just like those found on the higher end Nokia N-Series. The main camera is used to capture all those memorable moments, while the secondary camera will probably be used to cater for video calls. The hardware looks pretty slim in real life, but it will probably be a prime fingerprint target considering the material used.

Motorola i290 unveiled

Motorola i290 unveiled

Looks like we have shots of the Motorola i290 for all and sundry to see. This is an iDEN phone, and that means it will be available from Sprint if it ever makes it Stateside. While most of the photos feature Telus of Canada, that doesn't mean it won't make it here. The Motorola i290 will come with most of the advantages of an iDEN handset in a tiny and sexy body, where the same cannot be said for other iDEN handsets. Other information concerning its specifications include a tiny color display, a USB port, and a headphone jack. Strange to see that no camera has been packaged into the phone, whereby that feature has been taken for granted by many people these days.

Samsung SGH-C450 for beginners

Samsung SGH-C450 for beginners
Samsung has an entry level handset for those who want to do nothing more than make and receive both calls and text messages. The SGH-C450 is the name of the game, and it is really a utilitarian handset more than anything else. Features include a rather interesting keypad layout and measures 14.9mm, making it one of the slimmest budget phones to date. This dual-band GSM cellphone comes with a 1.52" 65k color CSTN display, a VGA camera, a 16-polyphonic ringtone, and an integrated FM radio. There is no MP3 playback support for a very good reason - the SGH-C450 comes with a mere 2MB of internal memory, and with no avenue to expand that further with a memory card slot. The Samsung SGH-C450 has a standby time of 3 hours and a talk time of up to 200 minutes per charge. There is no word on pricing as at press time.

Europe gets SGH-G600

Europe gets SGH-G600

Europeans will finally be able to enjoy Samsung's SGH-G600 as it is finally released in Europe. The SGH-G600 is no slouch when it comes to performance, packing in Bluetooth connectivity, an integrated FM radio, USB 2.0, an MP3 player, and a QVGA display at 320 x 240 resolution. Word has it that this is a 3G-enabled handset, and it sure looks like it with a camera located at the top left hand corner of the slider segment. The crown jewel of the SGH-G600 is of course, its 5 megapixel camera. The SGH-G600 is amazingly slim considering all the features available, measuring a mere 14.9mm thin.

NEC unveils concept handsets

NEC unveils concept handsets

NEC has just paraded a fair number of concept cellphones to the masses in Japan, and they all look very interesting! The entire range comes in a variety of kooky and weird colors, not to mention various shapes and sizes as well. Even the material used for each handset is different. No idea which one will make the cut before reaching the consumers, but it sure is an exciting future judging by what's on display! Check out the additional concept cellphones in the photo gallery by clicking on the image above.

Nokia to release Transformers N93i

Nokia to release Transformers N93i

Too bad this special edition won't come with the ability to turn into a robot whenever you're bored at your desk. Scheduled to be released in Q3 this year at a yet undisclosed price, this special edition Transformers N93i will come with the exact specifications as the vanilla version, save for the special edition packaging and pre-loaded content from the Transformers movie as well as games. It would've been a marketing coup of sorts if this handset could actually turn into a miniature robot for the big boys to keep themselves entertained under the table while attenting a corporate meeting.

Samsung looks into UCC

Samsung looks into UCC

User Created Content, or UCC, seems to be the next big thing these days. Citizen journalism is also on the rise, especially in lesser known and Third World countries. It is no wonder then that Samsung has conjured up the SCH-B750 cellphone that is capable of shooting videos which require no editing before being uploaded to various sites such as YouTube for the whole world to see. This clamshell handset comes with a 2.2" rotating display, a 3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity, TV out, DMB functionality, a built-in audio/video player, and a microSD memory card slot for expansion options. There is no word on pricing and availability, but it will probably remain in Korea at the moment.

Hantel releases TV-capable handset

Hantel releases TV-capable handset

At the recently concluded SINOCES 2007 event in China, Hantel paraded its new candybar cellphone that features the ability to watch TV on it. Nothing newsbreaking, but at least the people in China now have some form of portable TV on their cellphones. It does just analog TV and comes with all the rudimentary functions of a standard entry-level handset these days including a camera, a generous display, some sort of navigational wheel on the keypad, and the possibility of a touchscreen since one of the games on it is a sushi version of Bejeweled. No idea on how much this costs but it ought to be released within China only.
