Multi-layer display by SE

Sony Ericsson has just issued a patent which adds a multi-layered display, aiming to fit in more information onto a tiny screen by simply layering the information. This works pretty much like how current Windows applications do, and if you go back further, Apple computers have been doing that for a long time already. Do you think this new patent when implemented, will take off on a large scale? Chances are the upcoming iPhone will feature something like this in their user interface, so that day could come sooner than later. After all, this is one of the most viable methods of maximizing the use of such a tiny display.
