Cellphone to reduce accidents
Story posted on: May 30, 2007. Filed in: others.

Oki Electric Industry has developed a prototype of the Safety Cellphone that comes equipped with a tiny DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication) wireless module. This DSRC module communicates with other DSRC modules installed inside vehicles, sharing location information with one another in order to prevent the occurence of vehicle-pedestrian accidents. Will such a phone ever make its way to the US? Only time will tell, but retrofitting the DSRC wireless module will probably cause an uproar as nobody wants to be forced to spend more money than they already are. Just remember to keep an open eye as you carry on with your conversation when walking.
