Motorola Ming

A Linux-based Motorola offering, the Ming is the previously named A1200. Targeted at the Chinese market, shipping of the Ming has already begun in Hong Kong. The clamshell phone has Chinese character recognition - Pinyin input which is widely used. It seems quite a bit of market research has gone into the naming of the phone, seeing as 'Ming' means bright, clear, open and clear-sighted. Interestingly enough, the phone's plastic cover is transparent, keeping with the whole 'Ming' theme.

The handset uses a processor based on the Intel XScale PXA270 and has smartphone applications for email and personal information. It's integrated 2-megapixel camera functions as a business card scanner as well. The other standard features come into play: microSD card slot, 2.4-inch 262K color screen, quadband GSM/GPRS radio, Bluetooth, FM receiver and the like. We're not sure when, but Motorola is currently shipping the phone to regional distributers.
